"While you stroll through the town of Chole nearing sunset, hordes of phantom-like fruit bats emerge to begin their day as the sun disappears..."
Popo Park on Chole island is the world's first park for the conservation of fruit bats. These beautiful and very intelligent "flying foxes" - so-called for their fox-like facial features and russet back fur - are fascinating, and will put paid to any notions of vampires.
Popo Park is best visited during the day as the bats are nocturnal; as the sun sets you will see them leave in their hundreds, flying to mainland Mafia where they feed, before winging their way back to Chole Island at dawn. Alternatively you can watch them leave with a sunset drink in your hand, in your tree house or one of the two bars, "Hanashi" or "The Red Herring".
